Transfer News: Liverpool yet to make approach for Youri Tielemans
According to transfer news from Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are yet to make any approach for Leicester City midfield star Youri Tielemans despite showing strong interest in signing him.
Tielemans has grown into one of the best central midfielders on show in the Premier League since he signed for Leicester from AS Monaco in 2019. The 24-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2020/21 season during which he scored nine goals, including the winner in the FA Cup final, while assisting six goals as well. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Tielemans’ displays at the King Power Stadium have led to him emerging as a transfer target for Liverpool this summer. The Reds are in the market for a new midfielder as Georginio Wijnaldum has left the club. The 30-year-old completed a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain on a Bosman move on Thursday night.
Wijnaldum’s departure coupled with the injury-prone nature of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaves Liverpool light in the midfield unit. More so, considering that James Milner isn’t getting any younger. So, bringing in a new central midfielder becomes imperative for Jurgen Klopp & co.
To that end, Tielemans has emerged as a priority transfer target for Liverpool. In fact, recent reports had claimed that the Reds had already made contact over the possibility of a summer switch. However, Terreur has denied such developments, claiming that there hasn’t been any offer or approach made as of yet. (h/t Mirror)
