‘I am respectful towards my contract’ – Haaland hints at Dortmund stay

Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland has hinted that he will stay at the German club beyond this summer, amid rumoured interest from across Europe.

The 20-year-old is undoubtedly the most sought after player in world football, having caught the eye with his ruthless goalscoring prowess, which has seen him net 57 goals in just 59 games in all competitions since his arrival in Germany back in January 2020.

After spells in his native Norway, followed by a brief, yet impactful stint at Red Bull Salzburg, the striker opted to move to Westfalenstadion, amid reported interest from the likes of Manchester United.

While he is still only 18 months into his spell in the Bundesliga, his lethal form has sparked persistent speculation that he is set to secure another high profile move this summer, particularly after bagging a remarkable 41 goals in the same number of games across all competitions this season.

Recent months have seen United, as well as Manchester City and Chelsea, all linked with moves for the powerful forward, while La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona also appear keen, despite their current economic woes.

While the expectation is for there to be something of a bidding war this summer for the youngster, the player himself has hinted that he may not be ready to cut ties with Dortmund just yet, with three years still remaining on his current deal.

“Well I have a contract for a couple of years, so I am respectful towards my contract,” he told Viaplay.

“I am a simple guy. When I like something I just want to have more – when I score a goal, I always chase the next goal.”

The Norway international – who reportedly has a £68m release clause that comes into effect next summer – has highlighted the importance of his current side securing a place in next season’s Champions League, after an improved end to a turbulent domestic campaign.

“It was a relief to secure that spot. It was really important,” he added. “Like I have said before I am a big fan of the Champions League and I think everybody knows that. I have big dreams. I just won my first major trophy and it was a great feeling. So I want to win trophies.”
