Tottenham Hotspur managing director Fabio Paratici could be about to make two Serie A stars his first signings since joining the club.
That’s according to Football London’s Alisdair Gold, who reports on Monday that Paratici is in advanced negotiations with Atalanta for centre-back Cristian Romero and goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Spurs are understood to be in the market for a new centre-back and have recently been linked with Lyon’s Joachim Andersen and Sevilla’s Jules Koundé.
But it seems Argentine international Romero has now emerged as the club’s prime target in that position, with Paratici having previously signed him for Juventus from Genoa in 2019.
Last September, Romero moved to Atalanta on a two-year loan deal and the Bergamo club have the opportunity to sign him outright for €16m this summer. Reports indicate they are set to do that, before selling him on to another club for a quick profit.
The 23-year-old was named Serie A Defender of the Year last season and recently played a big role in Argentina’s Copa América success. He can play as a central defender or at right-back.
Meanwhile, Football London report that Atalanta goalkeeper Gollini could also be heading to Spurs this summer.
The 26-year-old was once part of Manchester United’s youth set-up and also had a spell with Aston Villa before returning to his homeland in 2017.
He could now move to Spurs as a potential long-term successor to Hugo Lloris.
