The Bayern Munich man’s hopes of surpassing ‘Der Bomber’ took a huge hit last month when he was sidelined through injury.
But the 32-year-old has got right back down to business on his return.
His hat-trick against Borussia Mönchengladbach last Saturday put him one goal shy of equalling Müller’s record of 40 goals in a single season that came in the 1971/72 campaign.
He then levelled with the long-standing record with a penalty against Freiburg last weekend.
His last minute strike on the last game of the season has written his name in Bundesliga and club history.
Simply remarkable.
