Ancelotti’s return to Real could pave the way for Manchester United to land Raphael Varane
According to The Mirror, Manchester United might have landed themselves a boost in their efforts to sign Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.
This comes after Los Blancos brought in former manager Carlo Ancelotti to fill the empty hot seat left vacant by Zinedine Zidane. This does not appear to be a piece of news that Varane will be celebrating.
This comes in the light of the comments he made in 2017 regarding life at Real under the Italian tactician. Varane suggested that Ancelotti did not trust him enough and that his development only accelerated after the Italian left.
“Since he left, I’ve improved. I could have perhaps played more under him if I could have shown him he could count on me in difficult times.”
While the 28-year-old went on to add that he understands Ancelotti’s decisions, there does appear to be some resentment there. He admits that life under the 61-year-old made him question his own abilities.
“I didn’t play as much as I would have wanted, but it pushed me to ask questions of myself and progress.”
The fact that a player such as Varane once questioned himself will come as a surprise to many. After all, as one of the top defenders in world football, he could walk into most clubs’ playing XI today.
End of the road?
Ancelotti is a celebrated manager who has a history of success wherever he has managed, except Everton. While he may bring about stability at Real, it remains to be seen if Varane is willing to have a second innings under him.
With just a year to go on his current deal, the Red Devils have a decision to make this summer. Whether this will give us an advantage in the efforts to sign him remains to be seen.
The Red Devils are long-term admirers of the 28-year-old. Whether this summer will finally see us make the necessary push to land Varane remains to be seen.
