Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has tweeted an update on Raphael Varane’s transfer to Manchester United.
It has emerged that the French centre-back is planning to fly to Manchester earlier next week.
That means we should see the deal completed in the coming days, with the player due to land in the UK on Monday.
Romano tweeted: “Raphaël Varane update. He’s planning to fly to Manchester earlier next week [should be Monday] to complete his move as Manchester United player.
“Medical and contract signing are also scheduled next week, then Varane will be unveiled as new signing after Sancho.”
Varane still needs to complete a medical and sign his contract before he is unveiled as United’s new signing, after announcing Jadon Sancho.
He said his goodbyes at Real Madrid today and embarks on a new chapter in his career at Old Trafford.
It would ideal for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if Varane could get at least one pre-season game under his belt, with tomorrow’s friendly against Preston North End cancelled following a COVID scare within United’s training camp.
Part of the reason Varane’s deal has not been snapped up earlier is United decided not to allow the player to complete his medical in Madrid.
Instead the club wants its own staff to lead the medical proceedings, which is complete understandable when dealing with a multi-million-pound athlete.
