Manchester City have allowed Joao Cancelo to leave the club during the January transfer window as a result of two damning factors, a new report has revealed.
The 28 year-old is set to complete a surprising late loan move to Bayern Munich, with the Bundesliga club having the option to make the transfer permanent for €70 million in the summer.
Cancelo, who has started just three of Manchester City’s last 10 matches, hasn’t featured since the 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this month.
Amid the sudden rise of Rico Lewis and recent performances of Nathan Ake, Cancelo has seemingly fallen out of favour at the Etihad Stadium.
The Portuguese international has hardly featured since being sent off against Fulham in November and according to a new report, has become ‘disruptive’ to a City squad currently fighting on three fronts.
Guardiola’s side are looking to win a hat-trick of Premier League titles but currently trail league leaders Arsenal by five points.
The Sky Blues have also qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and have also reached the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup after wins against Arsenal and Chelsea.
Jack Gaughan has revealed that after becoming ‘vocal’ in the recent weeks about a lack of game time and seeing his relationship with manager Pep Guardiola ‘progressively’ deteriorate, the club have allowed the 28 year-old to leave due to the ‘severity’ of the situation.
Cancelo has won two Premier League’s during his time at the Etihad Stadium, having signed from Juventus in 2019.
The full-back has made 154 appearances for the Blues, but is now set to swap East Manchester for Munich mid-season due to the bitter circumstances.
The decision to allow the Portuguese international to leave with less than two days left in the transfer window has raised eyebrows amongst supporters, although Gaughan writes that club sources are ‘adamant’ that the Blues have enough cover if a late replacement doesn’t arrive.
City signed left-back Sergio Gomez from RSC Anderlecht in the summer, but the 22 year-old has only made 12 appearances for the club to date
