Ahead of Barcelona’s match against Juventus in the Joan Gamper match, the Catalan club have released their squad list and there are a number of notable changes to the players’ official squad numbers.
Newly signed Memphis Depay seems to have taken the ‘9’ from Martin Braithwaite, who now dons the jersey number 12. Following the departure of Carles Alena, Riqui Puig has taken the ‘6’.
Sergio Aguero will officially don the number 19 for the match against Juventus. Ansu Fati’s 22 has been passed down to Emerson Royal, and he has taken up the jersey number 17 which belonged to the now loaned Francisco Trincão.
The rest of the numbers have remained the same. The only two numbers missing from the squad list are 10 and 16. The former belonged to the now-departed Lionel Messi, and the latter to Pedri Gonzales, who plays his Olympic final against Brazil in Tokyo.
There is a high likelihood that these numbers will remain permanent. The number that naturally raises the most eyebrows is the ‘10’, which as per La Liga’s rules has to be taken by someone in the squad.
