Denmark are through to the final four of Euro 2020 after overcoming Czech Republic in Baku.
And our Man of the Match is …
Joakim Mæhle (Denmark)
After their traumatic experience with Christian Eriksen and two defeats in their first two games, nobody in their right mind would have tipped Denmark for a semi-final berth.
Yet here they are, and it’s been a monumental team effort with the likes of Kasper Schmeichel, Simon Kjær, Thomas Delaney, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Mikkel Damsgaard, Martin Braithwaite, Youssef Poulsen and Kasper Dolberg all playing their part.
The last couple of games have all been about Joakim Mæhle, however.
The wing-back got on the scoresheet in the win over Wales yet his assist against Czech Republic was arguably better.
It was a nice finish from Dolberg but it was all about that delectable outside-of-the-boot cross. A special delivery from the Mæhle man.
The Atalanta man isn’t the only player who has made everyone realise they should probably watch more Serie A at this tournament, and he’s a big reason why Denmark have made a fairytale foray into the latter stages of Euro 2020 even without one of the most talented players their nation has ever produced.
Truly the feel-good hit of the summer.
