Scorers: Jota 18′, Mané 69′.

Liverpool made it two wins out of two after comfortably beating Burnley 2-0 in front of a packed Anfield.

Dwight McNeil almost gave Burnley a shock lead inside the opening five minutes but his low drive was cleared off the line by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But the Reds went in front after 18 minutes when Diogo Jota’s glancing header beat Nick Pope after being picked out by Kostas Tsimikas.

James Tarkowski almost pulled the visitors level just before half-time when he beat Alisson to a long-ball but his header dropped just wide of the empty goal.

Sadio Mané then extended Liverpool’s lead with 21 minutes to go when he half-volleyed home after being played through on goal by a delicate Alexander-Arnold pass.

Sean Dyche’s side remain pointless at the start of the 2021/22 season.
