The transfer market has taken a hit but LaLiga clubs are still bringing some great players in.
Here is our best XI of the league’s new signings …
GK: Mat Ryan
Brighton to Real Sociedad, free
After a difficult time at Brighton, Mat Ryan impressed after joining Arsenal on loan in January.
He joins on a free transfer, has impressive distribution and can speak Spanish which will help his acclimation.
RB: Emerson Royal
Villarreal to Barcelona, €9m
This technically isn’t a ‘new signing’ for Barcelona but their buy-back option for Emerson has worked perfectly.
The Brazilian developed into one of the league’s best defenders at Villarreal and they have signed him again for nothing.
CB: Juan Foyth
Tottenham to Villarreal, €12m
It makes perfect sense for the Argentine to return to Estadio de la Cerámica next season – and at a great price.
CB: David Alaba
Bayern Munich to Real Madrid, free
Sergio Ramos is essentially irreplaceable for Real Madrid but signing David Alaba will certainly soften the blow.
The 28-year-old brings speed, technical quality and leadership to their backline with Raphaël Varane also leaving.
LB: Javi Galán
Huesca to Celta Vigo, €4m
A really underrated left back who had great stats in a poor Huesca side last term.
Celta Vigo have transformed Eduardo Coudet and Javi Galán could be an exciting attacking outlet from wide areas.
MID: Manu Morlanes
Almeria to Villarreal, €4m
He started at Villarreal, moved to get regular playing time and now he’s back at home after some strong performances.
Manu Morlanes impressed for Almeria last term and earned a well-deserved move to LaLiga, where he will understudy some great midfielders.
MID: Carles Aleñá
Barcelona to Getafe, €5m
A talented player who deserved more playing time, Carles Aleñá and Getafe feels like the perfect marriage.
The 23-year-old can play deep or further forward, brings technical quality and links play between the lines.
MID: Rodrigo De Paul
Udinese to Atlético, €40m
One of the standout midfielders in Europe last season is heading to the Wanda Metropolitano.
Rodrigo De Paul is truly unique, providing goal threat, ball progression and high level technique in equal measure.
FWD: Erik Lamela
Tottenham to Sevilla, €25m plus Bryan Gil
Losing Bryan Gil – one of their brightest young prospects – has frustrated many Sevilla fans.
But Erik Lamela has the skillset to thrive in Spanish football, with great technique and added bite.
FWD: Boulaye Dia
Reims to Villarreal, €12m
COVID has killed the finances of many LaLiga clubs, but Boulaye Dia looks an inspired purchase for Villarreal.
The striker scored 14 goals in 36 appearances for Reims last season and is the perfect, counter-attacking player for Unai Emery.
FWD: Memphis Depay
Lyon to Barcelona, free transfer
His numbers at Lyon were outstanding, he can play across the frontline and brings X-Factor to an underwhelming attack.
