The Glazer family, which has owned Manchester United for the past 17 years, are looking to potentially sell the club.
In a statement released on their official website, the American ownership have confirmed that they will âconsider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactionsâ.
The full statement read: âManchester United plc (NYSE:MANU), one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Companyâs Board of Directors (the âBoardâ) is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club.
âThe process is designed to enhance the clubâs future growth, with the ultimate goal of positioning the club to capitalize on opportunities both on the pitch and commercially.
âAs part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company.
âThis will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengthen the club, including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the clubâs commercial operations on a global scale, each in the context of enhancing the long-term success of the clubâs menâs, womenâs and academy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and other stakeholders.â
This was confirmation of a story first reported by Sky News earlier on Tuesday which had revealed that the Glazers were looking to offload the club after  a tumultuous 17 years at Old Trafford.
If they do decide to sell, United would become the latest Premier League team to change hands after Chelsea were brought by Todd Boehly for an estimated ÂŁ2.5bn.
This news comes on the same day that United announced they would be parting ways with Cristiano Ronaldo after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan earlier this month
