Denmark’s national team doctor has confirmed that Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during the Euro 2020 game against Finland in Copenhagen, as the Danish Football Association has confirmed.
The statement from the Danish FA included quotes from the team doctor Morten Boesen who has both the authority and the permission to disclose Christian Eriksen’s condition.
“He was gone and we did cardiac resuscitation. And it was cardiac arrest.
“How close were we? I don’t know. We got him back after one defibrillation. That’s quite fast.”
The Inter midfielder collapsed towards the end of the first half of Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 match against Finland on Saturday evening.
Both the referee Anthony Taylor and Danish defender Simon Kjaer have been commended for their quick reactions. Anthony Taylor stopped the game immediately to wave on the medical professionals, whilst Simon Kjaer put his teammate in the recovery position immediately.
After receiving lengthy treatment on the pitch, Christian Eriksen was taken to the hospital for further examinations. That is when UEFA and the Danish FA confirmed that he was awake and talking to doctors and teammates.
