These nibs measure approximately 4.45 x 26mm (.17 x 1 inch). These are excellent nibs specifically designed for acrylic paint pen markers. The were especially engineered for this purpose by Tiebow, the premier Japanese pen company. My manufacturer carefully followed this model to produce these nibs for use with acrylic paint on all mediums, glass, sneakers, wood and the like.The structure of this nib shows a looser packing of the fibers to allow a better flow of fluid to the tip. The nibs I import from Japan are custom made to work just as the Teibow nibs do. See the photo for a cross-sectional comparison of nibs for stains and inks, general purpose paints, and acrylic paints; you will immediately understand the advantages of this nibs for paint with high pigment concentration and having a higher viscosity than water.Now there is a way to use acrylic paint in make your own paint pens and markers that reduces how much thinner is needed. These new replacement nibs let acrylic paint be used with much less thinning. However, as with all paint pens, some dilution of acrylic and latex paint is still needed for proper paint flow.One of my customers said that the difference between the standard paint pen nib and these purpose built nibs was ‘like night and day’ when she used her paint pens for rock painting. Acrylic paint is hard to use in a marker or paint pen because it is, for want of a fancier word, “thick”. Paint pens work very well with “thin” liquids like inks, alcohol-based paints, stains, etc. These liquids can be used straight out of the bottle in a paint pen or marker. Acrylic paint has very large molecules that move slowly through the fibers of a typical paint pen nib. It is hard to get the paint to the tip of the nib and onto the painted surface. These nibs allow a better pigment flow as compared to standard paint pens.
